Wordle

Before last week, I had never heard of Wordle before. I've been brainstorming for the past few days on how I could successfully use it as a classroom aid.

How can Wordle be used as a successful critique aid in promoting discussion between students? If a Wordle is passed out to each student containing valuable critique words, is it possible that students will be able to use the Wordle to help them communicate their ideas? Is trying to get students to use Wordle in the classroom pushing the technology on the students or would it be merely beneficial?

Bellow is a sample Wordle I created that I think could be an aid in a class-wide critique.

That is Rodd Lucier's blog. He is on Delicious as well as "thecleversheep". He has some idea's on how to use wordle in the classroom and seems like the perfect person for us all to network with for this class.

  2. I think that Randy Granger would like your Wordle because he always talks about using certain words during critiques. An example of intelligent descriptive words hung in the classroom would be a good idea for assisting students in their critique vocabulary.

  3. With all this talk about ELL. English Language Learning in the classroom, wordle could be a great liason into a language lesson. Wordle makes organizing the words students could use in a critique different and pretty to look at. It also only takes a few clicks to make a wordle. It is so simple, so I don't think using wordle would be pushing technology onto students because we all have great examples of how to productively use it in the classroom.

  4. I think this is a great way to use wordle. This can be an aid to encourage students to participate during critiques.

  5. I think you could take a collective of written critiques by your students, and put them in to wordle. This would give you a collective of the most common words used to describe a work of art. Your students could then decide if they are satisfied with their response as a group.

  6. I think that using WORDLE would be beneficial in the classroom and not it is pushing technology onto the students. Most students are very capable of working on the computer and having a lesson that incorporates a graphic design layout will open a new door for students to process terminology.

  7. I think that a wordle could be a nice way to make sure that students are getting spelling correct the first time they create the wordle. Having other classmates check for spelling will force the student to make sure he is right the first time. Having a slight competition amongst classmates can force them to work at their very best.
